About me
Engineering leader, people developer, platform builder.
Who I am
I started as a software developer and grew into engineering management over more than two decades, moving progressively from Junior Engineer to Senior Engineering Manager. Along the way I have managed teams across frontend and backend disciplines. I have been responsible for hiring, developing, and retaining engineers at every level.
I care deeply about the people I work with and the systems we build together. My background as an individual contributor means I can engage meaningfully with architectural trade-offs, technical debt decisions, and the day-to-day realities my reports face without micromanaging the work.
Leadership philosophy
People-first delivery
Great outcomes start with empowered, high-agency teams. I invest heavily in 1:1s, career development, and removing blockers so engineers can do their best work.
Ruthless prioritisation
I protect engineers from noise so they can do deep work. That means saying no clearly, managing stakeholder expectations early, and keeping the team focused on what actually moves the needle.
Ownership culture
I hire for agency and build systems that reward it — clear ownership boundaries, blameless post-mortems, and processes that give engineers genuine autonomy over their domain.
Technical credibility
I stay close enough to architecture to know when trade-offs are wrong. I don't write production code day-to-day, but I review code, attend design reviews, and challenge assumptions constructively.
What I'm looking for
I am open to Engineering Manager and Senior Engineering Manager roles at companies building developer tooling, platform infrastructure, or data products. I thrive in environments with strong engineering culture, explicit career ladders, and a genuine product–engineering partnership. If that sounds like your organisation, I'd love to talk — reach out via the contact form.
